Welcome to La Hottée

Name plate from a horse-drawn wagon, it says: Jean Thruaud, Proprietor of La Haute Haie, La Chapelle Glain, Loire Inférieure

a small farm in north-western France just south of Brittany. The farm is dedicated to the production and transformation of natural fibres.

What does La Hottée mean? It's the simplified form of "La Haute Haie" - the high hedge. That was the farm's name in the first half of the 20th century (when Loire-Atlantique was still Loire Inférieure), as proven by the plate shown here. Such name plates had to be put on all horse-drawn carriages - they were the predecessors of today's number plates on cars. I found this one in my fields - Jean Thruaud lost it some 50 years ago.
